INDEPENDENT EXHIBITION OF CHRISTINA MLADENOVICH • GRAPHICS • DRAWING • 13 March – 11 April 2021 Vernissage: March 13, from 4 to 7 p.m.
In his literary masterpiece The Sorrow of Angels, the writer Jon Kalman Stefansson wrote with the insight of a sage: “We are rowing in a punctured boat with a rotten net and preparing to catch stars.” This kind of sentence seems to describe the work of the artist Hristina Mladenovic, whom many childishly call simply Hrastche. Work in which sexless creatures are born from under her hand. Beings-bodies. Bodies with two legs, so that they would always have the freedom to leave us. To leave us or to return to us. Bodies that touch with both hands so they can wrap their arms around us when we need it. Bodies with arms and legs and two large human eyes. Eyes like stars that understand, empathize, love, suffer.
Hristina Mladenović’s professional path as an artist began in the graphics studio of the National Art High School, and finally, carried away by her desire to stay as long as possible in the time of childhood, she graduated from the scenography for a puppet theater at the National Academy of Theater and Film art. That is why today her name is known to many directors and actors with whom she works in our country, but more and more actively her sketches are embodied in material on the stages in Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Montenegro, Albania, Malta, etc.
During all this time that Hristina “lives” in the theater, she does not stop drawing, and the extraordinary situation in which our existence unfolds in the last year pushes her to return to the art of graphics. To the difficult, almost ritualistic work on the stone, from under which, after playing with ink, rubber and roller, taking the weight of the lithographic press, angels are “born”.
In her work as a graphic designer, Hristina Mladenovic does not run away from the world of dolls, on the contrary – she uses it to reveal to us the images that have occupied her for the last year. A year in which we all row our broken boats, and with our torn nets try to catch stars, friendships, dreams. And Christina – angels. The exhibition is supported by the National Fund “Culture”
