A memory of a disappearing species… I am of the generation that knows this kind of people only in the face of my grandfather and from my grandmother’s stories about him. Today I meet one such schedule, but not in person, because he is no longer with us, but through his art and through his daughter’s stories. This artist’s name is Yuliy Minchev. Quiet, moderate and modest to the extreme, and at the same time possessing the power to give good and support to those around him. No vanity, no ego, straightforward and with a sense of duty. Having lived through the war in its brutality, he hid the pain and horror of death in himself, and the only thing that saved him was painting. To paint reality to preserve and perpetuate it, most likely knowing that it will change. In the period from April 19 to May 14, 2023, GrafikArt gallery will present the outstanding Bulgarian artist Yuliy Minchev. The exhibition on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth will take us back in time to walk his life path through his work. We will see his early works in ink only, we will go through his precise linoleums, where urban landscapes are the main subjects, and we will finish with his fully abstract graphic works, which exude strong emotions.
