Location: Grafikart Gallery, 50 Zlatovrah St.
Grafikart Gallery will present four artists from Print Nest Studio in its new exhibition “Layering”, taking place from April 29 to June 5, 2026. The audience in Sofia will have the opportunity to see an exhibition of prints by Zoran Mishe, Vasil Angelov, Pavel Tselkoski, and Ivan Mateev, created using traditional printmaking techniques.
Over the years, their artistic explorations have developed in different directions, yet they intersect in one key aspect—the understanding of process as the foundation of expression. Each of the four artists follows a distinct life path, shaped by personal choices, doubts, ambitions, and transformations, all of which resonate within “Layering.” Each print can be seen as an individual layer within the process of expression: a trace of hesitation, transition, or affirmation.
“Layering,” or “with love for printmaking,” is an exhibition that approaches form not as a finished object, but as a process—dynamic, open, and subject to change. Each artwork bears traces of accumulation, erasure, and reconfiguration—layers that do not simply build upon one another but exist in continuous interaction. This is not a linear development, but a movement in which every state holds within itself the potential for transformation.
Through repetition, variation, and gradual accumulation, the images move away from the concrete and enter states of abstraction. Form loses its fixed nature and begins to function as a field of tension—between the internal and the external, between stability and change, between intention and chance. In this process, it does not resolve into a final form but remains open to new interpretations and meanings.
Here, layering is understood as a possibility for deeper observation and discovery. Each individual layer reveals a different aspect of the image and creates conditions for a more profound understanding of form. Through separation and rearrangement, new perspectives emerge, where detail gains independent value and the relationships between elements become more visible. This allows multiple viewpoints to coexist and transforms the process into a space for development and the accumulation of meaning.
The graphic “Layering” offers a perspective on art as a space of movement—not as a fixed form, but as a living structure that evolves over time. This movement is not destructive, but constructive. It allows form to change, unfold, and find new directions without losing connection to its previous states.
In this sense, the exhibition, on view at Grafikart Gallery until June 5, does not seek definitive answers but creates conditions for the coexistence of multiple possibilities. It directs attention to the process as a value in itself—as a space where development occurs, both in art and in life.
Additional information about Print Nest Studio
Print Nest is the studio of a group of artists devoted to the art of printmaking, transforming imagined worlds into reality. The studio brings together individuals with diverse abilities and perspectives on life. Their works are primarily created using traditional printmaking techniques, which lend a particular warmth and intimacy to the viewing experience, allowing them to create forms, spaces, thoughts, and emotions.
The contemporary character of their prints is reinforced by the themes explored in their work, which are diverse and multilayered. Their works range from precise miniatures to large-scale, monumental prints. Print Nest Studio was founded in 2012 by five printmakers: Zoran Mishe, Vasil Angelov, Pavel Tselkoski, Ivan Mateev, and Goran Trichkovski. Three of them—Zoran Mishe, Vasil Angelov, and Ivan Mateev—have received first prizes in the National Printmaking Competition – Classical Techniques, held since 2017 on the initiative of the “Culture, Sport and Health ML” Association with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
