“GrafikArt” gallery had the pleasure to present an exhibition with selected graphics and drawings of the artist with a long creative career Petar Chuklev.

For to experience the whimsical charge in the works of Petar Chuklev, we must armed with that pure childlike curiosity to prompt us boldly to undertake on the wise path of time and with sincere eyes to embrace the great variety of images and plots intertwined in the dynamic graphic compositions telling about the end of the dream.

The tenses of Peter Chuklev, born from the scope of his imagination, unite fairy tales creatures inhabiting mystical spaces, dense forests, or perhaps space cobwebs, gentle female figures, unseen faces and plots tending to us excite and sometimes frighten us.

Peter Chuklev was born in 1936 in Sofia. He graduated from the specialty “Graphics” under Prof. Eftim Tomov in 1960 in The National Academy of Arts, after which he specialized in illustration at Prof. Veselin Staykov. Works in the field of drawing, illustration and the easel graphic. Since 1969, he has been a part-time teacher at the Academy, where retired as a professor. Generations of Bulgarians have grown up with his illustrations of popular children’s books. Among the books he illustrated are “Tales” by Wilhelm Hauf (1966), “The Bunny and the Girl” by Kina Kudreva (1966), The Hobbit: Bilbo Baggins or Dotham and Back by J. RR Tolkien (1975) ‘Alice in Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland (1989) and Charles Perrault’s Fairy Tales (1990).

His works participate in exhibitions of Bulgarian fine art in Germany, USA, Slovenia, France, as well as at the biennale of graphics in Krakow, Liège, Oslo, Sao Paulo. He is one of the great masters of graphics, one of the classics drypoint and etching artists. In 2003, the artist received the special SBH award for comprehensive contribution to the field of book graphics of the First international bookplate biennial in Bulgaria.
